Meltzer H, Gatward R, Corbin T, Goodman R, Ford T (2003) Persistence, onset, risk factors and outcomes of childhood mental disorders. London: The Stationery Office
This survey, carried out by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) in 2002, used the DAWBA to follow up 8-18 year olds (N=2587) who had been assessed 3 years earlier as part of a representative sample of 5-15 year olds living in private households in England, Scotland and Wales. Limited resources made it impossible to attempt to follow up all 10,438 families assessed initially, but all those with a psychiatric disorder in 1999 were invited to take part, as were a randomly chosen third of those who did not have a psychiatric disorder in 1999. Analyses focused on the risk factors associated with persistence of existing disorders, and with the onset of new disorders
